The course is vocational in its delivery and as such you may have the opportunity to visit local commercial and educational science laboratories. These will provide the opportunity to see scientific processes being carried out in the workplace, as well as analytical instrumentation being used. Trips will include visits to the coroner’s office, attending national science fairs, visiting Drax power station, national museums, local and regional university science departments and an overnight visit to London. The course will also feature guest speakers, where you will be able to ask questions about their role in the workplace e.g. in crime investigation.

Before you begin your course, you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared with the right equipment. Many of our courses need specialist health and safety clothing, but we’ve made it simple - some of your essentials and college branded clothing can be bought from our online shop.

For your course, you will need:

  • Folder with dividers to organise your work and assignments
  • Stationery including notepad for use in class, pens and pencils
  • Scientific calculator
  • USB pen drive (for saving your work)
  • College-branded white laboratory coat
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – including steel toe capped footwear (boots, shoes, or wellies)
  • Waterproof outdoor clothing and footwear suitable for all weather conditions.
